Belts, shoulder straps, storm flaps and buckled cuffs add sewing time to a trench.
Raincoats
Waterproof raincoats need taped seams. TPU-laminated shell fabric costs $1.30–5.60 a meter in China.
Raincoat shells sold as waterproof are rated at 2,000–20,000 mm of water pressure.
California and New York have banned intentionally added PFAS in clothing since January 1, 2025. Rainwear for severe wet conditions is exempt until January 1, 2028. California requires the label "Made with PFAS chemicals" on it in the meantime.

Yardage
Pile coats take more fabric because every piece is cut with the pile running down. A faux fur cocoon coat below mid-calf takes 3.1–3.2 m of 145 cm fur in size M.
Faux shearling coats need no lining.

US duty on a coat is set by its shell fabric and fill.

The down rate applies when down and feathers make up at least 15% of the coat's weight. Down itself has to be at least 10% of the coat's weight and 35% of the fill.
Invisible water-repellent finishes don't count as coatings. A coat whose outer coating hides the fabric completely, such as PU faux leather, pays 23.8%.
A coat in 50/50 wool and polyester takes the synthetic rates. We pass the duty on at cost once the coats clear customs.

Our pattern maker sets the chest room for what your customers wear under the coat.
Finished coats measure within 1 cm of your size chart.
Children's coats sold in the US can't have drawstrings at the hood or neck in sizes 2T to 12. Waist and hem drawstrings on sizes up to 16 can hang 7.6 cm at most outside their channel. Toggles on drawstring ends aren't allowed.
