Landed cost per hoodie

A ready-made (Stock Match) order uses hoodies already in production at a Chinese factory, with your label sewn in. Of 17 heavyweight pullovers we priced for that route in October 2026, the middle half sold for $8.80–13.80 at 50 pieces. For a custom (Made to Order) hoodie, we cut your pattern from fabric we buy at the market. You pay its $120–220 development fee once per style. It covers the pattern and first sample, plus two rounds of changes.

We price orders of 100–299 custom hoodies on your quote.

Heavyweight hoodies on a rack in a warehouse, with export cartons on the shelves behind.

Every order we deliver clears US customs on a formal entry, with us as the importer of record. CBP's processing fee is 0.3464% of the goods' value, with a minimum that applies to any order under $9,983. A customs broker files the entry for $150–250. On top of that comes a single-entry bond guaranteeing the duty, at $75–150. We pay all of it on arrival and bill it to you at cost.

US duty on a hoodie from China depends on whether cotton makes up more than half the fabric. Our heather fabric has more cotton than polyester and pays the lower rate. A 50/50 blend pays 52%, as does any fabric with more polyester than cotton. That adds $2.31–4.17 to a custom hoodie at 50 pieces.

Fabric weight and freight

Our lightest fabric outweighs the Gildan, Independent Trading, Champion and Hanes blanks. Only a custom order matches the Los Angeles Apparel HF-09.

We pack 25 hoodies to an export carton. Couriers charge a carton by its size when that comes to more than its weight. One of our cartons counts as at least 19.2 kg by express. Fifty 350 gsm hoodies fill two and go on the bill as 38.4 kg.

Air freight costs less per kilo but has a 45 kg minimum. Fifty hoodies in 500 gsm fabric reach it. Three hundred weigh 180–300 kg packed and fly at $6–8 a kilo.

Every weight comes brushed, with a soft pile inside, or as loopback. That's the unbrushed knit of our French terry sweatshirts.

Hood linings and drawcords

Custom hoods come in one layer or two: the second is either cotton jersey or the body fabric again. Jersey covers the seams inside the hood and feels smooth on the hair. A hood doubled in the body fabric is the warmest and the most structured. A 400 gsm hoodie needs 120–200 g more fabric for it, $0.41–0.99 at the mills' $3.45–4.95 a kilo. We add the extra sewing to your hoodie price on the quote.

On a two-piece hood, one seam runs over the crown from forehead to nape and leaves a slight point on top. A center panel set between the two sides makes a three-piece hood, rounder at the crown and closer to the head.

Our drawcords come flat or round. They pass through metal eyelets or through eyelets embroidered into the hood fabric.

Drawcord trims from Chinese suppliers, per piece at 1,000 pieces
Flat polyester cord, 3/8 inch, metal tips$0.40
Flat polyester cord, 5/16 inch, silicone tips$0.24
Round polyester cord, 3/16 inch, metal tips$0.30
Flat cord printed with your logo, plastic tips$0.25
Metal tip engraved with your logo$0.12
Brass eyelets, one set$0.10

Sewing the cord and eyelets in is part of the hoodie price.

Zips and pockets

Ready-made zip-ups cost more. The three we priced sold for $15.25–19.35 at 50 pieces. Custom zip-ups fall in the same price range as our custom pullovers. The zip is a small share of that.

Zip trims from Chinese suppliers, per piece at 1,000 pieces unless noted
#5 nylon coil separating zip, one-way$0.10–0.30
#5 brass separating zip, one-way$0.12–0.35
#5 nylon coil separating zip, two-way, which also opens from the hem$0.40 at 3,000 pieces
#3 nylon zip for a pocket$0.09–0.20
Zip puller cast with your logo$0.12–0.45, plus an $80–200 mold; 500–1,000 pieces minimum

YKK zips are priced on your quote. We tape both edges of the opening before the zip goes in. Taped fabric can't stretch under the needle and ripple. If you'd rather hide the teeth, a placket cut from the body fabric can cover them.

Our pullovers have one pouch pocket across the front. On a zip-up it splits in two at the zip. A zipped pocket for a phone or keys can go inside the pouch. It closes with a #3 zip.

Print and embroidery positions

Front prints sit above the pouch pocket and run up to 12 inches wide and 10 tall. Our zip hoodies take a left-chest logo 3–4 inches wide, clear of the zip. Pocket prints fit within 6 by 3 inches.

We start full-back prints on adult sizes 6–7 inches below the hood seam, where the lowered hood can't cover them. They run up to 12 by 14 inches. Down-the-sleeve prints are 2.5–3.5 inches wide and 12–14 inches long, beginning 4 inches below the shoulder seam.

Your embroidered letters need to be at least 0.3 inches tall on a brushed hoodie. Lines finer than 0.05 inches disappear into the pile. A logo drawn that thin works better as a print. We price embroidery by stitch count, as on our T-shirts.

Take a 4,000-stitch left-chest logo with a one-color back print. On an order of 50, the logo costs $4–12 a hoodie and the print $0.80–2.10, screen included. US customs taxes decoration done in China along with the hoodie. The duty on this logo and print comes to $1.75–5.15 a hoodie.

US safety rules

Under 16 CFR 1610, the US flammability standard for clothing, brushed and loopback hoodie fabrics count as raised-surface textiles. Any of them with cotton in it has to pass the standard's burn test. The exemption covers only fabric made entirely of acrylic, modacrylic, nylon, olefin, polyester or wool, alone or combined. Spandex isn't on the list. Polyester knitted with spandex needs the test. CPSC names cotton and cotton-blend fleece among the fabrics it commonly finds noncompliant. Fleece made of 100% cotton is also on its list of fabrics whose burn results vary from sample to sample. For those fabrics, one test isn't enough to show they comply.

We are the importer of record on your DDP order. That makes the General Certificate of Conformity ours to issue. We have your fabric burn-tested at a lab and base the certificate on its report. Since July 8, 2026, CPSC has required the certificate data with every customs entry. We file it for you.

Kids' hoodies need a Children's Product Certificate instead, based on tests at a CPSC-accepted third-party lab. We issue it. The lab tests the trims and prints for lead. The limit is 100 ppm in the material itself and 90 ppm in paint and other surface coatings. A tracking label in the hoodie gives the place and date it was made and the batch number.

US rules ban drawstrings at the hood and neck on kids' sizes 2T to 12. We make those hoods without a cord. With the garment stretched to full width, a waist or hem drawstring on sizes 2T to 16 may stick out at most 3 inches from its channel. Toggles and knots aren't allowed on its ends. A single cord running the whole channel has to be bartacked to it.

Inspection

An inspector holding up a gray hoodie on a factory floor, with sewing tables behind him.

We check every custom hoodie at no charge before it ships and fix or remake any that fail. A ready-made batch of 50 passes when 13 hoodies picked at random show no major defect and at most one minor. We still replace that one faulty hoodie. When a batch doesn't pass, we check it piece by piece and replace every faulty hoodie. A full check of all 50 costs $0.18 a hoodie.

If a hoodie arrives with a fault, send photos within 14 days of delivery. We remake it and pay the freight, or refund it if you prefer. Replacements ship within 7–15 days. You can send your own inspector to the factory at your cost.
